Abstract

Cardiac tamponade originating from a primary gastric cancer (GC) is a rare condition. Patients are generally asymptomatic until the disease is advanced, and therefore, early diagnosis is difficult. We report a case of a 43- ear-old male admitted with progressive dyspnea and diagnosed to have cardiac tamponade on two- imensional (2D) echocardiography.
Pericardial fluid cytological examination was suggestive of metastatic adenocarcinoma. He underwent abdominal computed tomography scan, which showed thickening of the gastric wall and several mesenteric lymph nodes. Endoscopic examination of the stomach disclosed malignant ulcer along the lesser curvature, and  iopsy of gastric ulcer revealed signet ring cell adenocarcinoma. Our patient presented with cardiac tamponade as the first manifestation of primary GC.
