Dr. Ashish Satav : A Journey of Dedication and Service

  • The Indian Practitioner

Abstract

In 1998, a doctor with passion and zeal to serve the poor in remote underserved tribal areas registered a trust – the Mahatma Gandhi Tribal Hospital (MAHAN) – in a small four-room house with an OPD made out of a mud hut in a village in Maharashtra. He himself lived there to make himself available all the time for patients. This was the beginning of a long saga in selfless service – the Gandhian Way. He was none other than Dr. Ashish Rambhau Satav, a dedicated doctor in the field of community health, who has devoted his life to improve healthcare for the tribal population of Melghat in Maharashtra, India. His journey, marked by dedication, academic excellence, and wide recognition, is a testament to his unwavering commitment to serving the underserved.
